Should 6-year-old be suspended for bringing utensil to school?
No, this is ridiculous.
- Under this principle's logic one might be arrested for yelling "fire" under a disturbing the peace ordinance.
- I was once injured by the thrust of a classmate's sharp pencil. It was the fact that the pencil was an ordinary object at a public school that made it such an ingenious choice of weapons.
- Please, bearrr! A "Swiss army knife" in the hands of a 6 yr. old is still not very big. It may be big enough to ask a question or two of him about it, or even to remove it from his possession until he goes home, but the basic problem here is whether flies should be swatted with sledgehammers.
- The school is missing the point. Fear of making a mistake could immobilize our society before the advance of mayhem.
- How interesting that children in our society are considered to be incapable of sound moral judgement, and are excused for almost anything when they misbehave in other venues, but to ignorantly misbehave in a public school it is taboo.
- ...I just happened to remember that bringing a pair of nail clippers onto an aircraft used to be against the rules too. Apparently they thought that rule was wrong upon more mature consideration, since they changed it.
- Og no like to be called backwards for disagree!
- Yes Tommy, we heard you the first 100 times...and those were sharp nailclippers we used to tote about.
